Also, the most recent addition to the top shelf of the new bookshelf, which is all stuff by or about M’Cheyne, is vol. i (of ii) of the first edition (1844) of his memoir by Bonar. I’ve been searching for ages for a first edition first printing of this, and this is as close as I’ve gotten so far (and it was only £5, though vol. ii is missing). The preface to the first edition is March 25 and the preface to the second edition is September 25. So this volume is before the Sept. 25 preface, but marked ‘Second Thousand’ meaning it is not the first print run. I’ll keep looking, though this is a fantastic find.
